New Year=New Blog

Same place//*\\New face

                    ~thia the small~
We are taking blogging to the next level         this year! More style, design, affordable beauty, DIY, foodies, good vibes and my journey of growing & rediscovering the passions that started ~thia~
From moving to a new city, losing my job, and getting stuck in this "I can't get out of bed" kind of rutt. I know a ton of you can relate.  So if you think you're lost in that 20 something "what am I doing with my life" I'm your girl, this blog is for venting, sharing things I love and am inspired by; and most of all the journey.
My goal: be honest, explore, share my story, easy & affordable DIY project and Ofcourse the birth my sustainable textile/apparel and upcycled craft company

Time to take down the tree

As the year comes to an end, unfortunately that fresh smelling evergreen tree has to come down. It's time to put away those ornaments and take down the lights. Holidays aren't over yet, the new year is right around the corner... I've had a lot of ups and downs this 2014 in my next post I'll be getting a little more personal- maybe some of you out there can relate? New Year's Eve means tying up those loose ends and sharing goals + optimism for 2015. So until tomorrow ...
Bon nuit my birdees (if you're out there)

Was Santa good to you?

Happy holidays birdees!
Wish I was blogging more this holiday season but what can I say...cowboy guns and a certain 3 year old boy got me a bit distracted. This Christmas was simple, full of family, and ofcourse traveling. Santa did good though, I finally got "Living in Style" by Rachel Zoe and I can't wait to bring in the new year with the stylist, now designers, tips and advise!
More to come

Packing sucks

... Here Baby (my precious puppy) and I are lying on my bed piled high with close from my last trip just days ago to the mountains... Incase you missed the pics

All these sweaters and layers aren't going to do me much good at the Southern Outer Banks of NC.
So I know leggings, oversized sweaters, and my denim on denim outfits are the easy go to. The real test is my outfit for Christmas Eve church service and what to wear on Christmas dinner. Because Realhousewives is on and the rain is pouring, plus I have no idea if I'll get a cute outfit for Christmas... So I'll let you see the final result!
However I am PROUD to say my Christmas shopping and packing are 100% complete versus the 2 minutes before opening presents xma morn!!!! Proud lady 💪

On this 3rd day of Christmas

My sissy and I made cookies & icing from scratch... Only to discover I don't own a rolling pin, so we improvised with a recycled wine bottle! And they turned out ADORABLE <3

I don't mean to brag but some of my cookies turned out like a Martha Stewart cookie creation ;)

Get the Beads Out

It's time for glitz and glam!  The beads are out, along with old bits and pieces of "junk" jewelry, it's time to start working on some holiday jewelry for those chic girls on a budget.

I love following all the popular fashion blogs, but let's get real who can afford even half the items they wear, so thia, the small designs unique pieces from recycled materials for the everyday girl price tag. I'll be sharing my works in progress and really want some feed back!  I design jewelry I want now, but can are simply chic enough to keep around for the seasons to come.
What do you want?

Lucky Buddha

Since my college days my taste for beer has pretty much flown out the window. The other night I found a new deliciously light, not too sweet/ not the least bit bitter beer called Lucky Buddha. Not only is it delish but look at that bottle! Practically sells itself ;)

Prepping for Holiday Season

The holidays are vastly approaching which means I'm a very busy bee, working day and night on my handmade&one of a kind cards.

(that's me: printing and painting away)
My goal is to have my thia, the small etsy account by November 1st starting with these holiday cards and some other special goodies ;)

Anyone out there have an Etsy account? Advice? Opinions yay/or/nay?

I haven't started an Etsy account yet... honestly I've been so apprehensive on creating one because I feel like I need to have lots of items made and ready to sell before hopping on the Etsy train.
Honestly I would love some feed back!

P.S. this is as close you'll be getting to a SPOILER ALERT!!!! on how I make these beauties

Upcycle DIY

Hey there birdees,

I told you I'd be working on some DIY apartment projects, and last night my boyfriend & I got our crafty crafty time on!

Weather is getting cooler and one of these days that first frost is going to hit which would just devastate my patio plants (poor little babes).  So they needed a space inside my one bedroom loft apartment, only problem is there really is only one corner in the entire space that gives enough light to let them grow.

.......with the help of my amazing beau we took apart one of his old skateboards and transformed it into a chill shelf that is now home for our plants :)

This was a somewhat simple project that took just one evening; the best part we got to collaborate and do it together

All you need is:
*skate board deck
*hemp & sturdy rope/yarn
*creativity
*love

My plants look pretty comfy and settled after the move <3                  Tell me what ya'll think!?

Happy space= creative place

Tights season has arrived

So we're (meaning my boyfriend and two pups Lila&Mya) headed to the skate park, a typical morning off activity. Heading out the door I notice boyfriend is in corduroys , it's chiller than I thought. He sighs as I run upstairs to change which normally turns in to a wardrobe change. But alas.. Tights!
Slipped them right over my Vans and out the door we went :)
 Cheers to layers season!

Friday's DIY

Evening birdees,

So yesterday night I posted that it was my free day and that I'd be getting crafty.  Today I pulled out lots of scraps, like all those blue jean legs I have laying around from the many pairs of jorts (jean shorts) I made over the past few springs.  From leopard print, faded mom jeans and those dark wash Ralph Lauren jeans I chip choped; to those endless piles of old tee shirts.

Perhaps its a mix of colorblocking + some quilting piece work= a doggie bed cover!

My pups could not be more thrilled to be getting a cozy bed to call their own... not to mention my boyfriend will love the extra space we will now have in our queen size bed!

Still searching for a few more scraps to complete this doggie bed cover, but here is where I am at in the doggie bed making process.

Let me know what you think! (I think baby Mya likes it)

Don't be shy- enter blog giveaways

I have always been skeptical to enter into those big blogs who have those one in a million odds to win one of their giveaways... But guess what you may actually luck out!
I've never had the best of luck... Well ever. But today my trip to the postbox has completely changed my perspective.

This girl entered one of the Zoe Reports giveaways for the new skimmies collection by Jockey- and guess what... I won a free pair in the right size! So comfy! I think I could, can and will be wearing these skimmies everyday!

Cheers to optimism :) and skimmies

thia's thinkin up a storm

Sick of living in what looks like the equivalent of a college student apartment. So I will be taking "babysteps" to transform this one bedroom into a luxe living loft <3

Here are some of my upcoming DYI projects that hopefully you guys can do to add a little fabulousity into your living space:

-doggy bed
-throw pillow cases
-accent painting on shelves, furniture and nick nacks around the house
- plants, plants and more plants!
-duvet cover
-simple and easy to do wall hangings for a pop of color

Here's to living in style ;)

PS that is the name of Rachel Zoe's new book that comes out March 25th!

fabulous things to come...

Evening beauties,
Can I just say this weather sucks? I didnt move down off the mountain for 30 degrees and raining in the middle of March wth!  Maybe that's why this mani Monday I went for baby blues.

This NYC Long Wearing polish, in Skyline Blue, was only 98 cents and it actually applies smoother than some of my $8 polish! Score!

It's Tuesday night, Lila and I are laying around with The Real Housewives in the background while we hop around Pinterest searching for upcoming DIY inspiration.  Once my upcoming bills are taken care of it's time to start redecorating and doing some small scale renovation in our cozy little one bedroom loft apartment. Which I am so excited for! (minus the fact that I will have to do a lot of editing because unfortunately my boyfriend/roommate isn't to big a fan of flirty pastels, floral & animal prints etc.)  It's going to be a challenge pleasing all of us- me, boyfriend and Lila of course, or sticking to a tight budget... but that's what Goodwill, yard sales and spray paint are for right? ;)
Any ideas and feedback you guys have once I start sharing my transformation in progress would be so great, so please please please share with me!

Sweet dreams & nightie night

DIY cropped denim 101

Next seasons trends are "springing" in with full force and with just a simple snip of your scissors you can update those 'bleh' jeans wasting away in the back of your closet instead of throwing them out.  Save your cash and spare those landfills of your unwanted denim because this spring is all about mixing up casual denim with more luxe items like leather or pumps.

So dust off those jeans and grab:
-a ruler or measuring tape
-piece of chalk
-some sturdy scissors

First: Slip on your jeans and mark on both legs with your chalk where you want to cut... I recommend about an inch to 1"1/2 above your ankle bone
Second: Take your measuring utensil and lightly mark a straight line all the way across the pant legs
Third: Snip away!
Last: Run your fingers along the freshly cut edge and pull the threads to create a frayed effect

Simply style with pointed pumps for effortless street style and voila! You'll look fresh out of a fashion mag!
